Solar photovoltaic array with a battery bank sized for winter, and a quiet backup generator. No grid connection needed.
Water
Rainwater harvesting and filtration to potable standard; greywater reused for sub-surface irrigation.
Sanitation
Composting toilet or sealed biodigester, so nothing reaches the lake or the wetland.
Warmth & envelope
Passive-solar orientation, thick insulation and triple glazing, with a high-efficiency wood or masonry heater for the coldest days.
Low-impact foundation
Screw-pile foundations lift the house off the ground with almost no excavation, protecting soil, roots and drainage.
Local, natural materials
Regional timber (coigüe, lenga, ciprés), stone and glass, with a standing-seam metal roof and an optional living roof.
